This is a very short bow: 46" strung.
Scytoi (Scythian) is the Greek name for the people who occupied the steppes (open prairie) contemporary to the ancient Greek and Persian empires.
They are probably the basis of the Greek stories of centaurs and of amazons (in several steppe cultures women were active combatants in war and raiding). Artifacts of Scythian sculpture and metal work show them drawing their bow held horizontally under their arm (bow hand knuckles to the sky, draw to armpit of bow arm. I have seen drawings of Lakota, on horseback, using the same style).
This line of research led Kassai to what is a very good children's bow at 15# draw at 20 inches. It is a simple recurve bow , not a static recurve like the rest of the Horsebows . This light bow works well for a combat game that several medieval history clubs play with very specialized blunts. The Scythian is solid fiberglass wrapped in suede leather, with a wood handle and end nocks. It does not have syhas. The finish is the same suede and wood as the Avars and Mongol. The leather cover is the same as the ancients'. They used it to protect the sinew and glue from getting wet. We use it to cover the fiberglass from the UV of the sun and to duplicate the old look.
